Q. Why should I take advantage of the Texas Property TaxBack
TM Program?
A. Why not? The Texas Property TaxBack TM Program does not cost you any additional money each year, yet it allows you to leave a major gift in the form of life insurance proceeds to your family, school, church, or favorite charity.

Q. Will the Texas Property TaxBack TM Program work for everyone?
A. No. It depends on each homestead and personal situation. However, the tax code 33.06 does allow everyone that qualifies to take advantage of it.

Q. If I decide to go ahead and pay my taxes vs. taking advantage of the Texas Property TaxBack TM Program, what would I be losing?
A. If you pay your taxes each year, you end up with a handful of paid receipts vs. leaving a life insurance policy that will pay off the deferred taxes PLUS , it can leave a major benefit to your family, school, church, or favorite charity.

Q. I feel that if taking advantage of the tax deferral code is not the right thing to do. Are you sure it is ok to defer my homestead property taxes?
A. Absolutely! Just like it is ok for you to receive your homestead exemption and your over 65 exemption. It is your legal right!

Q. When are my deferred taxes due?
A. Your deferred taxes and interest are due within 181 days after you no longer own and occupy your home as your homestead.

Q. Who should I contact if I have questions regarding the Texas Property Tax Code, my life insurance policy, or further tax planning?
A. For questions regarding the Texas Property Tax Code, you may call the property tax division of the Texas Comptroller's office in Austin (TOLL FREE: 1-800-252-9121). If you have questions regarding your life insurance coverage, you should call your agent or the company that issued the policy. You should always contact your tax attorney regarding any changes that you contemplate in your estate.
